Georgia, USA

Brownie Troop 358 from Hampton, Georgia took action locally in the 2008 Thinking theme of water by learning more about their Watershed. They participated in programmes at Cubihatcha Outdoor Center to understand what a watershed is and what plants and animals grow locally in theirs, at Newman Wetlands Center to learn about the characteristics of a wetland and follow a stream through the county, and visited one of the Henry County Water Treatment Plants to learn more about local water.

A couple of the girls even entered the River of Words Contest. Completing the EPA’s Water Drop Patch and Water Everywhere Try-It are just the beginning for these Girl Scouts as they look forward to more conservation programmes and how they can make a difference in their world. They researched and had a display about fellow scouts for their local Thinking Day – The Girl Guides of Australia.

They became very interested to learn more about Australia and the recycling efforts of fellow scouts there. They also learned about Australia’s Kookaburra, sang the song, and were even happier to see a pair at the Atlanta Zoo!

Australia

Miranda Dolphin Guides built a wishing well for World Thinking Day. It was used to lower a coin into the well (the coin fell out of the basket into the well with a satisfying "clunk"!), while the girls each made a wish for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.

Prior to WTD, the girls used a water bottle as a spare coin collector, which they also brought along. All up, Miranda District will have over $200 for the Thinking Day fund.
