Apply now to become part of the WAGGGS delegation at Rio+20
10 January 2012
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) - also called 'Rio+20' - will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and is a key event for sustainable development. Rio+20 marks the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also in Rio de Janeiro, and seeks to renew political commitment, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps, and address new and emerging challenges. The conference will result in a focused political document.
A WAGGGS delegation will participate at the conference and preceding meetings and will receive advocacy training on-line and in person beforehand. During the conference they will help ensure that the voice of girls and young women is heard, for example by following the negotiations, speaking out at side events, taking awareness raising action, doing media work and working with young people from around the world through the youth constituency.

Participate in 'the world we want for our future'
During the first quarter of 2012, WAGGGS is also running a global consultation 'the world we want for our future' with children and young people that will inform our key messages at rio+20.
The rio+20 conference will mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg. It is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The Conference will result in a focused political document.
The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges.
