Water projects in Central America

The vital importance of water and how to use it wisely is the focus of projects across six countries in Central America.Developed as part of the Central American Youth Forum themed ‘Young people together for water’, which took place in Guatemala last year, the initiative aims to support training new Central American leaders to develop solutions to the issue of scarce water resources.
Projects across the region
In Matagalpa, Nicaragua, Guiders and Guides have set out to rescue a river. Besides learning about conserving and protecting their natural resources, they are working for the benefit of the entire community of this town located in the coffee region of the northern highlands.Elsewhere in the region, Honduran Guides are helping clean out the sources of water for a community, Guatemalan Guides are engaged in an awareness–raising campaign, and high school students in El Salvador are learning about the better use of water.
In Panama, 1,000 girls and young women are sharing new experiences on the sustainable use of water in a project supported by the Ministry of Social Development, while 13,000 young Costa Rican people promote a new culture for the use of water.
