We would love to hear from Girl Guides and Girl Scouts about their plans for World Thinking Day and about how their units have made a difference in the community. We will develop their answers into case studies of girls and young women and the Guiding and Scouting experience in different countries.
If you are interested in participating in this activity, please could you confirm your interest by sending an email to Vanessa@wagggsworld.org by 20 February 2010. Vanessa will then work with you to identify a specific candidate for the story, then help to collect the information.
These are some of the responses we have received so far:
What does the World Thinking Day theme, “Together we can end extreme poverty and hunger,” mean to you?As a young woman and a Girl Guide in Europe I am aware of how lucky I am to be born in a safe family and environment and never had to experience extreme poverty and real hunger. I am aware of how I can help as a European and how I can help as a Girl Guide. As a consumer I try to make good decisions when buying food and other articles and try to encourage other Girl Guides as well (the WAGGGS Food Security & Climate Change Badge is a good tool for it). As a Girl Guide I try to take part or lead such actions which can bring a more safe and sustainable world and I know that many Girl Guides and Girl Scouts do the same around the world. Ten million girls and women represent big power and can reach important changes in the closer and wider communities. Gabriella, Hungary |
What are you doing for World Thinking Day 2010?I will be helping out in my country’s World Thinking Day Celebration in the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This year, the celebration would be much more special than the previous years as we will be celebrating the centenary this year. We have also invited other sister Guides from other countries to join us in this event. Valerie, Singapore |
How do you think Girl Guiding has contributed to the community?Fostering global citizenship among girls and young women, encouraging community service and building strong and compassionate women who will guide the world in the 21st century. Jackie, Canada |
